Small Groups

Why Small Groups

At Lake City Church we encourage everyone to participate in the small group that is best suited to their interests and needs. Small groups provide an excellent way to break down the "large crowd" that comes to the Sunday Celebration Services into smaller gatherings of people.

Each semester (fall, spring and summer) we offer a wide variety of small groups for adults based on interests and needs. Please see the Small Group Directory for our current listing. We have small groups for every age.

Our small groups are designed to be a place to make new friends, deepen current relationships and to experience God while being involved in an activity you enjoy.

If you want to check out a small group please call or email the small group leader for location and calendar.

They provide an environment for:

  • Fellowship and friendship with other Lake City Church attendees.
  • A comfortable setting in which to study God's Word and apply it to our lives.
  • An opportunity to build a spiritual support network in which we can learn to minister to others as well as receive ministry from others.
  • A safe, friendly place to bring friends, co-workers, and family members.

Types of Small Groups

Although each Lake City Church small group is unique in its own way, there are three basic types of groups offered.

By far, the greatest number of groups are "Free-Market" small groups. These are groups that are initiated and developed by Lake City Church members that have been screened and oriented to LCC small group ministry. Although these members receive oversight and ongoing instruction, they are free to choose their own content, venue and style. We have found that free-market small groups work well in meeting a broad variety of needs and interests.

Ephesians 4 (E4) groups are those groups which have been initiated and developed by Lake City Church leadership for the purpose of intentional spiritual transformation within the context of small group ministry. Each E4 group seeks to not only impart knowledge and understanding, but also seeks to give opportunity for personal application, peer interaction and accountability, scripture memory, and the sharpening of personal devotional skills.

The newest (Fall 2005) addition to our small group line-up is our "After-Word" groups. Each week a web-based study-guide is created to further complement the learning at Lake City Church's main services. The weekly guide facilitates group discussion and encourages people to personally apply key scriptures and learning. Designed for individuals and small groups, this resource seeks to offer greater depth, application, and accountability. Resources for starting an After-Word group can be found (Fall 2005) under the "Small Group Leader Resources" link at the top of this page.

Participants

Lake City Church Small Groups are held in homes throughout Madison and in surrounding communities on a weekly basis. A typical evening would find group members arriving for a time of fellowship and "catching up" on what is happening in one another's lives. This could then be followed by praise and worship, study of God's Word and a time of prayer for each other. Our Home Group leaders are committed Christians and regular Lake City Church attendees. Their desire is to see each individual grow and mature in Christ, as well as in wisdom, knowledge, ministry, and evangelism.
